چکیده

The current version of IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol does not support energy-efficient mobility for the low-power device. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient sleep mode as part of the IEEE 802.15.4 that can conserve energy by considering mobility of mobile sensor devices. The proposed energy-efficient sleep mode dynamically extends the sleep interval if there is no data to transmit from the device or receive from corresponding nodes. key words: IEEE 802.15.4, sleep mode, sensor device mobility

An Energy Efficient Clustering Method using Bat Algorithm and Mobile Sink in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of sensor nodes with limited energy. Energy efficiency is an important issue in WSNs as the sensor nodes are deployed in rugged and non-care areas and consume a lot of energy to send data to the central station or sink if they want to communicate directly with the sink. Recently, the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is employed as a low-power, low-cost, and low rat...

Coordinated Sleeping for Beaconless 802.15.4-Based Multihop Networks

The last few years have seen a wide adoption of the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC/PHY standard for low-power communication between wireless sensor nodes. Within this work we study some fundamental drawbacks of the 802.15.4 specifications for multihop network deployments, which adversely affect efficient node energy consumption. These issues are rectified by investigating a timezone-based scheduling, V-Rout...

Performance Analysis of a Beacon and Non Beacon Enabled IEEE 802.15.4 Star WSNs with Different Traffic Loads

This paper deals with IEEE 802.15.4 beacon enabled and non beacon enabled multi-hop star wireless sensor networks with varying traffic loads. For high channel utilization & low power consumption, impact of MAC parameters such as beacon order (BO) and superframe order (SO) has been analyzed. IEEE 802.1.5.4 MAC works in two modes, beacon and non beacon mode. This paper provides the performance an...

Coexisting IEEE 802.15.4 Networks with SleepMode for Machine-to-Machine Communications

The low-energy consumption of IEEE 802.15.4 networks makes it a strong candidate for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. As multiple M2M applications with 802.15.4 networks may be deployed closely and independently in residential or enterprise areas, supporting reliable and timely M2M communications can be a big challenge especially when potential hidden terminals appear. In this paper, we...

IEEE 802.15.4 Frame Aggregation Enhancement to Provide High Performance in Life-Critical Patient Monitoring Systems

In wireless body area sensor networks (WBASNs), Quality of Service (QoS) provision for patient monitoring systems in terms of time-critical deadlines, high throughput and energy efficiency is a challenging task. The periodic data from these systems generates a large number of small packets in a short time period which needs an efficient channel access mechanism. The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is re...
